Successful North Wellington Area Blue and White Tournament 2017

Over 30 excited judoka attended the successful North Wellington Area Blue and White Tournament held on Sunday 3 December. Hosted by the City College Judo Wanganui club, the tournament had participants from five clubs in the area. The white, yellow and orange belt judoka ranged from juniors to seniors. Run by Garry Davies, the day started with a training session in the morning before competing in the afternoon. Congratulations to Liam Goodhall and Kaleb Glen who were graded during the event. Liam attained his brown belt and Kaleb achieved his blue belt.

North Wellington Area Blue and White Tournament 2017

The 2017 North Wellington Area Judo Blue and White Tournament will be held on Sunday 3rd December at Whanganui City College gymnasium in Whanganui. The tournament is for new and lower grade judoka (white, yellow and orange belts). The aim is to introduce lower grade judoka to competition in a more relaxed tournament where the emphasis is on participation and having fun, rather that winning at all costs.


Who: Any registered judo players from North Wellington Area at White (6 kyu), Yellow (5 kyu) or Orange (4 kyu) grades who have not competed or have competed only once at an Open championship tournament.
Where: Whanganui City College gymnasium, 84 Ingestre Street, Whanganui
When: Sunday 3rd December
Time: Morning session 10am - 12pm (midday) training, Afternoon session 1pm - 2pm (ish) fights competition
Cost: Free

The 2017 North Wellington Area Judo Champs will be held on the 20th and 21st of May at the International Pacific College (IPC) Stadium in Palmerston North.

2016 Oceania Judo Champs Representatives

The North Wellington Area have 2 competitors attending the 2016 Oceania Judo Champs held in Canberra.

Finn Brown from the Wanganui City College Judo Club will be competing in the Under 73Kg division from 11 o'clock Saturday morning and Barry Clough from the Palmerston North Judo Club will be competing in the Over 100 Kg Masters division on Sunday.

2015 North Wellington Area Judo Training Camp & AGM

The North Wellington Judo Training Camp is a comprehensive 1-day event open to both male and female Juniors, Cadets & Senior Judoka from age 7 onward, 5th Kyu & above.

A range of techniques will be demonstrated in Ne Waza and Nage Waza with a healthy amount of Randori to practice what you have learnt. This will be an opportunity to refine existing techniques or work on new techniques, or simply to develop your own Judo knowledge.

The North Wellington Area will be holding their AGM straight after the completion of the North Wellington Judo Training Camp at 3.15pm on Sunday 8th November at Wanganui City College.

2015 North Wellington First Aid Course

A reminder, NW Area and JNZ are providing the opportunity to attend a judo specific first aid course run by St Johns. This is scheduled for 25 July. 12 noon until 3pm, at the Levin Judo Club Dojo, Levin School Hall, 67 Tiro Tiro Rd, Levin.

This is a 3 hour practical workshop,  modified to be Judo specific, conducted on the mat in judogi, and is structured to deal with most common issues and injuries encountered in the club.

Please note that completion of a first aid course is a requirement for those wishing to complete the old C2 or new Level 2 Coaching qualification.
There is a limit of 20 for the workshop, and applications MUST be completed through the Club Administrator using the on-line Event Management system. Application closing date is 25 July.

To register your interest, advise your Club Administrator. They will then enter your application on-line using the Event Entry Manager. We will try and accommodate as many as possible (St Johns indicate 20 max).

FREE to registered NW Area Members. $100 per club for one attendee from other Areas, or $150 for 2+ from same club (nb: this will be subject to “first paid, first served” and availability of space – NW members get priority because the NW Area have co-funded the program)

2015 National Training Camp

Dates:   Friday 13 February-6:00pm / until Sunday 15 February-1:00pm (this means if you are flying into/out of Wanganui allow extra 45min/ flying into/out of Palmerston North allow extra 60min).    

Venue: Springvale Park next to the Boys and Girls Club.

Accommodation: Wanganui Boys and Girls Club Springvale Park / G F Moore Drive / Wanganui.

Compulsory Stay in Accommodation: Anyone who wishes to be considered for NZ selection in 2015 is expected to stay at the camp.

Invited Attendance: Any registered 4th Kyu or higher graded JNZ member 15 years of age or older.

Voluntary Stay in Accommodation:  Club Coaches or attendees not wishing to be considered for NZ selection in 2015 may stay at other accommodation if they wish. 

Costs: $150.00 – all attendees regardless of whether you stay or not.

Training Camps and Coaching Clinics

NORTH WELLINGTON JUDO TRAINING CAMP


The North Wellington Judo Area is holding a one day training camp in Palmerston North on Sunday the 28th September 2014 at the Palmerston North Judo Club Dojo.

Starting at 9am and finishing at 4pm, the camp is open to Cadets and Seniors who are looking to learn, improve, or polish their Ne Waza and Nage Waza techniques.

Coaching Course


The North Wellington Judo Area is also holding a Coaching Course on the 1st of November 2014 at the Wanganui City College Judo Club. If you are interested in doing this course, please discuss with the head coach of your club.

We are finalising the details of this course and registrations will be taken on the North Wellington Judo Area website shortly.

 

Napier Judo Club Training Seminar


Our good friends at the Napier Judo Club are hosting a training seminar on the 13th and 14th of September 2014 at the Napier Judo Club Dojo, 13 Peddie St, Taradale, Napier.

Yoshio Kaneda (Japanese Nidan) from the Auckland University Club will be conducting the training and demonstrating a range of techniques.
